Post subject: Posting Rules [Last Updated 27 September]
Newly added rules will be bold and colored orange.
Legend:
Basic rules fundamental.
Usually about all sections.
Usually about listing sections.
Usually about requests and general sections.
Advanced rules specification.
General Board-wide
#1.1 MyAnna is aimed at a Learning and Teaching audience. This means our site is designed for Students and Teachers including but not limited to Professional Students, Lectures, Professors, Principals from Engineering, Arts, Law, Medical Colleges(Private, Government, Government Aided, Autonomous, Deemed College(s)(Universities), Primary, Higher Secondary Government, Private, Government Aided School(s). Everything must be aimed at these Sectors, Department and People Group. Explicit, vulgar language, drug talk, nudity, porn and so forth is not allowed and if identified will be taken necessary actions.
#1.2 Do not mini-mod. We would like to encourage and thank members to use the report button but not add their own criticism.
#1.3 All publicly displayed messages are only limited to English. This includes posts, titles, signatures, profiles and other forms of public display.
Warning System
#2.1 Members who disobey the rules will be warned or banned depending on what the moderator believes is the appropriate punishment.
#2.2 Members can be warned a maximum of three times. On the third, the member will be immediately banned. This does not mean that you have to have a warning to get banned, moderators may ban you without warnings depending on the offense.
#2.3 A warning can have a time bomb unless you're banned. If a time bomb is set, your warning will automatically expire after a certain number of days. If you believe you do not deserve the warn please contact the moderator who warned you. Talking back to the moderator who gave you the warning with no sense of respect will lead to further warnings.
If you do not know why you received a warning, an email and private message would have been sent to notify you of the reason why you were warned and who warned you. Posting Etiquette (manners)
#3.1 All topics must contain a description. Users posting topics without description or useless contents will be warned or receive infractions.
#3.2 Treat others positively and with respect. Flaming other members or other forums will lead to a warning, possibly even a ban.
#3.3 Topics must be submitted to the relevant forums. Please read the forum descriptions before posting.
#3.4 Topic titles must have an appropriate description.
Example:
An example for a good description is "Help needed with game".
An example for a wrong description is "HEEEEELP!".
#3.5 Image Image Bumping is allowed provided that the reply has relevant information that is useful to the continuance of the topic. Short intervals of bumps are not allowed to bump the topic up onto the first page by the same person.
Example:
Allowed: A topic discusses a news event. The topic's discussion has died but there is new striking evidence to turn thoughts around. A reply with such information that is relevant and useful is allowed.
Allowed: Requests (Includes requests in helpdesk & graphics) may only be bumped once every 48 hours since the last reply.
Disallowed: Bumping topics continuously to get them up to the first few pages.
Tip #1
Make a good Subject Title. Within this, theres a couple things you can do to help. One is to not always capitalize. Only if its really SUPER important! Next, be informative. Don't just say "I need HELP!". Do say "I need help with scrolling and need some scripts to do it" or something decant like that. Even that is a bad example, as you should first search the forums to see if the question has already been answered (See rule 7). The second part ("and need some scripts to do it") is not completely neccecary, but I like doing it in some cases.
Tip #2
Never ever rush. This (as far as I know) happens most of the time when somebody is having trouble making one of their games, or wants to know how to make a certain type of game. I might sometimes rush, but you should always try your best to take your time to not do it. Sometimes I might take 10-20 minutes to make some long posts. Reason #1 not to do this is that by rushing, you usually make more mistakes, which sometimes means people won't understand what your asking. Reason #2 not to do this is also by rushing, you don't get to explain the problem as detailed, and even though you don't want to get long, you still want to not rush so people can understand the problem better, so more people can help you.
Tip #3
Divide and Post Most members post a very large/bulk posts without splitting it in two. A simple solution is to first decide how many parts you are going to split the topic and then post the first one and by clicking Add Reply post the next and so on. This will improve the readability for users and also decrease the complexity.
Tip #4
Revise and Re-edit After completing your post, just quickly preview it and check if you did anything wrong, and also just take a quick second to see if anywhere you can re-word it and such. Note that I'm not the best at this rule, but thats because I'm not an ELA person.
Tip #5
If there's something that someone needs help with, for example, it is very helpful if they leave a link to the project or problem so other people can see what's wrong and how to fix it. Or even if you're advertising your project, you should leave a link because no ones likes looking through "my stuff" pages to find just one project. So by leaving a link, you're raising your chances of people helping or looking at your project/galleries/stuff.
Tip #6
Post in the correct forum. Because of people doing this, two terrible things happen:
1. Moderators have to move them to the other forum sections and most of all,
2. Its more difficult to find certain topics. For example, by putting a how do I" questions thats regularly Advanced topic in the Suggestions forum, somebody will tell you that its already in scratch, and that won't help you with your question. If you don't know where something should go, first read the descriptions of each forum, and if that doesn't help, just ask somebody.
Tip #7
Be patient for replies. More than often when you ask a question you'll get a reply within 10 minutes to 5 hours to 1 day. If you don't get any after a while, try editing your post, and a bit more detailed to help the problem solver/replier. And if you have a project related to it and you haven't done this already, than post a link to it. Again, patience makes perfect (just like practice makes perfect). A good idea to immediately know whether you get a reply or not is to Subscribe to a post this can be done by clicking Subscribe Topic at the top of every post page.
Now Here are some Tips that will Enhance our Forum Environment:
Consider the following internet forum guidelines for etiquette.
* Avoid typing in all caps or all bold, as this is the equivalent to yelling on an internet forum.
* Avoid posting extremely long forum posts on a regular basis.
* Read all of the posts in the thread before posting on the internet forum. This will help forum participants avoid repeating points that have already been discussed in depth.
* Do not "hijack" forum threads. Stay on topic and avoid directing the thread away from the current line of conversation, particularly if the original poster is seeking an answer to a question. If you'd like to discuss a different issue or problem, it's best to start a new thread on the forum.
* Avoid criticizing remarks about fellow forum participants; if a forum participant has a problem that they'd like to address with another individual, it's best to discuss the issue off-forum rather than in a more public forum setting.
* This is a professional and respectable education forum, it's best to avoid derogatory remarks about the website, website staff, etc. Remember, there's a fine line between constructive and non-constructive criticism in many cases, and those lines can be blurred on the web due to the absence of indicators like tone of voice, facial expressions, etc.
* Remember your audience. Who's reading the web forum? It's important to keep this in mind when making forum posts, as some forum discussions may be inappropriate depending on the forum audience.
* Use emoticons and other symbols to indicate tone. When posting on an internet forum, there is an absence of indicators that help one to decipher tone and the forum poster's intention. In the absence of valuable voice tone, body language, facial expressions and other social cues, emoticons and symbols (smiley face, or "*smile*") can help make tone and intention clear to other forum participants.
